How To Get Started!

First and foremost, there is no wrong way to do this...but here's how I went about starting my Bible journey!

*Updated 12/26/15: Now that I've read a few books of the Bible, I've changed a few things about my bible study, so I'm updating my "How to" as well...

Step 1: Research how others have done it!
After attempting and failing at reading the Bible a couple times throughout my life, I gratefully stumbled upon the Good Morning Girls on Pinterest...these ladies have a plethora of advice and tips. Just go to: www.womenlivingwell.org to check out all of their FREE resources.
If you'd like to join me, I'll be leading a group in the New Year, through the book of Job! Study will begin Mon., Jan. 4th!!

Step 2: You'll need some supplies!
Initially I used:
- Colored Pencils
- Highlighters
- 1-Subject Notebook
My current supplies include:
- 1 in. Binder; where I print off and hole punch the GMG resource guides! These can also be purchased in a workbook format.
- Accu-Gel Highlighters!! I got mine from Amazon.com. These are AMA-ZING! They have vibrant colors and DON'T bleed through the thin pages of the Bible!
- Sticky Notes or tape tabs; I like to "book mark" verses
*1-subject Notebook; (the GMG print outs have replaced this for me perosnllay, but I keep this as a resource, for our Littles. As I read the bible, I write down one verse from each chapter, then highlight 1 or 2 for the kids to "study".) I'll share more about including children in your Bible Study later!

Step 3: Get organized!
In my initial study, I created two Pinterest Boards: Bible Journaling Tips, where I pinned tips and suggestions, information about the bible, maps, etc. and in the second, Mustard Seeds, I pinned random Bible quotes that I liked...but, after I really got into reading/ studying the Bible, I discovered that these boards were getting out of control...so I now have individual boards for each Book of the Bible, where I pin that book's specific verses, maps, etc., as I read it. I have found having the specific board for the Book I'm studying, at the time, to be a great resource! You are welcome to check my Pinterest Boards out if you'd like.

Step 4: Decide which method of study will work best for you!
For me it has been the S.O.A.K. method & Bible Coloring Guide, I'm so grateful I found on Pinterest. Thanks to Pinterest, I stumbled upon the amazing women at: www.womenlivingwell.com (with whom I have no association, other than as a huge fan!!), where I found exactly what I was looking for - some basic instruction and a place to start! THANK YOU, Cindy for allowing me to jump in and for providing such an incredible resource!

Step 5: Dust off your Bible (or buy a New one) and get started!

**If you want to include your children, like I did, get them a 1-Subject Notebook as well.
*I read the Bible alone, but include our kids by selecting 1-2 verses, from my weekly reading schedule (from Women Living Well) and have them write them down, then they illustrate "what the scripture means to them", then they write a prayer according to the message of the scripture (somewhat following the S.O.A.K. method).
I'll post a picture soon!
